About the talks

Kirsty Firman‘I realised that they’re not here to judge us. They’re with us, actually with our side’: The experience of receiving support in the home setting by parents

Clients being offered psychological support can receive this in a variety of settings, including their home. There has been some investigation on the effectiveness of home-based interventions, including parenting interventions, and professionals’ experiences of delivering these. However, less is known about parents’ experiences of having professionals come to their home to provide support. This talk with highlight my research investigating the experiences of parents receiving support at home. Methods used, results, and implications for clinical practice will be discussed.

Bethan Jones and Dr. Jael Hill – The Family Intervention Team home visiting research project

As a service with almost 20 years’ experience of home visiting practice, we have reflected on how offering a service in homes and schools may allow for increased accessibility and offers opportunities that may not arise when working in a clinical setting. This talk will highlight our research which sought to understand the perspectives of Family Support Practitioners, particularly how these opportunities and experiences impact on practice and contribute to good practice guidelines in home visiting within early intervention emotional wellbeing support services.

Learning objectives

  1. Increased understanding about the experience of receiving and delivering support in the home by parents and professionals.
  2. Increased understanding of the key considerations when delivering support in the home.
