There have been growing levels of awareness by professionals of harmful sexual behaviours among children and young people. This half-day conference will focus on assessment and interventions in harmful sexual behaviours and also look at links with the digital world.

About the day

The ACAMH Northwest branch presents this half day conference on sexually harmful behaviours in children and young people. This event is aimed at those who work with or have an interest in harmful sexual behaviour among children and young people, both in clinical and non-clinical roles. The conference will offer attendees opportunities to hear from expert speakers who provide services locally in this field. This half day will also be an opportunity for discussion on the topic.

This day would be particularly beneficial to those who work in both a clinical and non-clinical setting such as; Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists and Psychologists, Speciality Doctors, Clinical leads, Nurse Practitioners, Educational Psychologists, Social Workers, Sexual Health and Wellbeing Workers, and those that work with children and young people affected with mental health issues and the topic in hand.

About the speakers

Dr Helen Griffin
BA (Hons) Social Science, PA Dip, NVQ4, Foren.Psy.D, CPsychol.

Helen is a Senior Practitioner and Head of Research with G-map. She is a Chartered Forensic Psychologist, and a member of the Division of Forensic Psychology, and holds a BPS approved certificate in Trauma Treatments.  Helen is registered with the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS).  She is one of the authors of the AIM2 assessment tool, for use with young people who display sexually harmful behaviour.  In addition to undertaking direct assessments and therapeutic work with young people, Helen has provided consultation and liaison to carers and professionals.  Helen is also responsible for psychometric testing at G-map and for research that G-map have been involved in to further develop this area. Prior to joining G-map in January 2006, Helen’s work experience included working with socially excluded young people, youth work and research completed for the Youth Justice Trust and Youth Justice Board. Helen has published articles and book chapters around this field of work and has peer-reviewed articles.

Jennifer Allotey

Jennifer is the clinical lead for the harmful sexual behaviour pathway at FCAMHS delivering an in-reach consultation, assessment and intervention service into HMYOI Wetherby and Adel Beck Secure Children’s Home. Jennifer has recently co-authored ‘Technology Assisted Harmful Sexual Behaviour Practice Guidance’ for the AIM Project and NSPCC. Twitter @jenallotey

John Hicklin

John has been working in adolescent forensic services for the past 20 years. He is a registered mental health nurse with experience of working across adult and children’s forensic services. He has an MSc with merit in Child and Adolescent Mental Health with a research focus on HSB assessment.

Dr. Shermin Imran

Dr. Shermin Imran is a child and adolescent psychiatrist currently working in and leading the Forensic CAMHS outreach service for the North West. She has over 10 years’ experience of working in the Tier 4 services for adolescents in Manchester, is a clinical lead for GMMH CAMHS services, and an elected member of the NHSE CAMHS Clinical Reference group.
