Help for teachers handling of disclosures of abuse and trauma

A high number of calls and emails to helplines about children living with domestic abuse have been recorded during the pandemic. Nip in the Bud has just released a short film to help teachers deal with potential disclosures from children about abuse and trauma.

During lockdown children may be more at risk of physical, sexual or emotional abuse and they may not have the opportunity to disclose what is happening to them to a safe adult outside of their home.

In this five minute film David Trickey, consultant clinical psychologist at the Anna Freud Centre, offers techniques and advice for teachers who find themselves faced with a child disclosing experiences of a traumatic nature. You can download the accompanying fact sheet.

Nip in the Bud works with mental health professionals to produce short films and fact sheets to help parents, primary school teachers and others caring for and working with children to recognise potential mental health conditions. Their goal is to increase the prospects of early intervention and to reduce the risks of those conditions becoming more serious in later years.
