We are delighted to be working in partnership with our publisher, Wiley, to launch a new international journal, JCPP Advances.  This is a broad-scope, fully open access journal, and the first journal to ever have a publishing partnership with the world-leading Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry (JCPP).

Putting the author experience first, JCPP Advances is rapid, responsive, offers format free submission and embraces open science by mandating ORCiD, requiring data availability statements and offering open science badges.

Together JCPP and JCPP Advances provide a comprehensive service for authors – if a paper does not find a home with JCPP, the editorial team will offer authors of high quality papers the chance to transfer their article and the peer review feedback to JCPP Advances without a lengthy resubmission processes and, in most cases, without the need for further rounds of peer review. For a more direct and speedier decision, JCPP Advances will also accepts direct submissions.

Henrik Larsson, Professor of psychiatric epidemiology at Örebro University and Karolinska Institutet, Sweden has been appointed as Editor in Chief of the new journal.  He said ‘JCPP Advances wants to change the way that authors experience the publishing process and help their submissions reach full potential. We will maintain rigorous evaluation of the science whilst removing unnecessary steps in the process, such as reformatting articles, and by reusing peer review feedback. Our editorial team is actively committed to identifying and shaping critical research findings, supporting open science, including open access and meeting a real need for researchers of child and adolescent psychology and psychiatry.’

Edmund Sonuga-Barke, JCPP Editor in Chief, said ‘Great to see the launch of our sister journal JCPP Advances – what a welcome addition to the JCPP family. It’s a fully Open Access journal that complements JCPP, and Henrik and I will work closely together to give authors the greatest possible choice of publication models while continuing to ensure, as always, the highest scientific standards and production values.’

Sarah Oates, Senior Editorial Director, Wiley said “Our mission for the JCPP family is to publish well conducted research, disseminate knowledge widely, reduce redundancy in the peer review process and dramatically improve the publishing experience for our authors by helping them find a home for their research as quickly and painlessly as possible and enabling them to adhere to institutional and funder mandates. We hope that the work published in JCPP and open access in JCPP Advances will ultimately lead to better mental health outcomes for the children, teenagers, and young adults in our society.”

Unique features of the journal

Being an open science journal, we aim to proactively experiment with and explore new approaches to publication and research such as CRediT, mandating ORCiD, requiring data availability statements, offering open science badges and other initiatives. In time, we will be delighted to consider Registered Reports.

JCPP Advances operates a fast manuscript transfer system from its sister publication. We make it easier for authors to submit their work through format free submission. For many we provide easy access to institutional open access funds.

We are charting our growth and progress by quality indicators of citation, Impact Factor and indexing on citation databases.

JCPP Advances adopts the continuous publication format and publishes six issues per annual volume.

JCPP Advances will open for submissions in November.
