If we know more about what you want, and how you to want to engage, we understand you better, and we can try to give you more of this. To do that, at times we will ask you to sign in to some of our services that requires you to give personal data.
We use your data to benefit you in two ways:
- Creating a more personal ACAMH for you
It helps us make ACAMH more personal for you. It means based on your requests we can:
- Recommend things we think you’ll like
- Show you content that’s relevant to you
- Make sure you can access resources that are appropriate.
- Build a better ACAMH for those interested in child and adolescent mental health
One of our objectives is to bridge the gap between rigorous research and best practice through the disseminate of information. As more people become aware of ACAMH, and the work we do, the more the scope of our members and customers expands. For example, we are seeing more teachers, social workers, mental health nurses, and those that work with children on a regular basis, having a desire to access ACAMH content. As more of our content gets consumed online, it helps to understand who’s consuming it so that we can:
- Ensure the right people are consumer the appropriate information
- Learn more about what people want in order to provide clear user journey pathways
Throughout all of this, we’re committed to make sure your personal, private data stays safe and secure. This is why we have a Privacy Promise.
ACAMH Privacy Promise
The ACAMH Privacy Promise covers how we treat your data and puts you in control of what happens to it. We have centred this around three main areas.
Trust is paramount to us and we are we’re committed to keeping your data safe and secure.
- We promise to never sell your personal details to anyone
- We adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
- We promise to only use third party organisations that adhere to GDPR for services such as mailing, data storage, financial transactions, and the like
- We promise to work under the regulations of the Financial Conduct Authority whenever taking and storing details relating to financial transactions.
We will clearly explain what and why we are collecting data about you. We will only collect data we need so that we can:
- Give you a better experience
- Develop and improve our services
- Fulfil our objective to disseminate information to our member and the sector as a whole as a public service.
We are continually looking to improve the content and services we offer, and to offer you more choice in how you access this content and services. It’s your decision on how you want to receive and access information about this content.
- Offer a range of tiered memberships with different benefits to better suit your needs
- Wherever possible offer content and services across a range of delivery system to improve your access opportunities

The Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (ACAMH) is committed to protecting your privacy. As such we operate in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000, and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The information below describes the ways in which we collect information from you when you use the service, and what we may use it for.

You have the right to get a copy of the information that is held about you. This right of subject access means that you can make a request under GDPR to any organisation processing your personal data. You can request us to supply you with copies of both paper and computer records and related information. ACAMH, as set out on the Information Commissioner’s Office website, may charge a fee for this. However, it is important to remember that not all personal information is covered and there are ‘exemptions’ within the Act which may allow an organisation to refuse to comply with your subject access request in certain circumstances. It is the Association’s policy not to distribute or sell your information on to any third party.
What data do we collect from you?
We collect data from you (‘user data’) when you register to receive updates from us. This data can sometimes comprise personal data about individuals, to which UK data protection laws apply. These terms and conditions and our data protection policy describe The Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health approach to fulfilling its obligations under those data protection laws.
Our use of user data
We will use user data we collect from you only in accordance with the following guidelines:
- to provide the updates to you
- to provide and improve our service to you
- to notify you of any changes to our terms and conditions of use
- to send you information about our other products and services if you so wish.
Tracking our visitors
Mailing of journals
The hard copy mailing of JCPP and CAMH is overseen by our publishers Wiley. Wiley only use a mailing house that adheres to GDPR. ACAMH uses a secure ftp system to upload mailing details to, this information is drawn from our CRM system Subscriber, which is supplied by Dataware. These details will be the information that you have provided when you completed the process of joining ACAMH. If your details change please let ACAMH know so that we can amend as required.
The mailing details uploaded to the ftp are available for 24 hours for Wiley to download and process to a mailing house to deliver your journal. Wiley only work with mail houses that adhere to GDPR. Wiley work in accordance to GDPR and destroy this data in the appropriate manner and timeframe. Following downloading of the files by Wiley, ACAMH destroys these in the appropriate manner. Only Wiley and our IT support team has access to this secure ftp.
Mailing of marketing materials
ACAMH may send you information on topics that you have indicated an interest in, and have opted in to receive such hard copy mailings. ACAMH only works with mail houses that adhere to GDPR and works to the process as indicated above in ‘Mailing of Journals’ in terms of giving a mail house the required data.
ACAMH uses the IT provider ITS for support services. ITS work in accordance to GDPR.
ACAMH uses the e-mail newsletter service MailChimp. In order to sign up to this service, an individual has to submit personal information about themselves (e.g. name, e-mail address, interests). Members of ACAMH and those that book onto an ACAMH event also receive a newsletter to keep them up to date with the latest research and relevant information they have indicated they would like to receive. For non-members and those who do not attend ACAMH events this personal information is also required to receive a piece of content, such as a scientific paper, or access to a restricted content such as member only content, or to be kept up to date with the latest research and activities of ACAMH. You can ‘opt out’ of the newsletter at any time by clicking on the ‘Unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of each newsletter.
This personal data is collected by ACAMH an MailChimp on behalf of the Museum. The data is stored on a secure MailChimp server. MailChimp are not permitted to use the data for their own purposes nor to sell or distribute it on to any other individual, organization or business under any circumstances.
Our online booking service is provided by Dataware through the Subscriber system. Personal data is taken and retained on the Subscriber system, this information is used to keep you up to date about the event you have booked on, the Membership you have selected, and to keep you up to date with the latest news on child and adolescent research, and ACAMH activities, as indicated above.
When a booking/membership is taken online the payment for this is processed from the Subscriber system to a payment portal called SagePay. All financial data is processed by the SagePay system and ACAMH retains these records in accordance with financial regulations, after which they are destroyed.
As with online bookings telephone bookings are input and retained on the Subscriber system, this information is used to keep you up to date about the event you have booked on, the Membership you have selected, and to keep you up to date with the latest news on child and adolescent research, and ACAMH activities, as indicated above.
Credit/debit card details are taken by an ACAMH officer onto a paper booking form. The form is placed in a locked draw and processed manually at the then of the day. After a booking has been processed the form is shredded. We use a credit card processing machine via the WorldPay payment system. ACAMH retains these records in accordance with the required financial regulations, after which they are destroyed.
