West Midlands ACAMH Branch
Here at West Midlands ACAMH we’d like to extend a warm welcome to all of you who have an interest in children and young people’s mental health and psychological wellbeing.
I have had a career in supporting children and families with special educational needs and disability. The work has been focussed on the identification, assessment and provision of needs. My work led me to establish a Social Work Practice Education Unit, with a particular focus on Social Work Student placements in Schools and Education Settings. I served on the Council for Disabled Children’s, Special Educational Consortium (SEC), to work with the DfE on formulating and implementing the SEND Reforms. I have influenced local and national Education Policy as well as overseeing effective and efficient service delivery teams.
I’m Sheena Ashford and I’m both a health psychologist and an educational psychologist. I spent my early years in research, mainly national initiatives around health and education. More recently I ran a school-based children’s mental health service. I’m hugely committed to improving children’s mental health through effective, evidence-based practice.
I am a retired Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and am proud to have been involved with ACAMH Midlands Branch for over thirty years. We strive to provide high quality events that enable and empower frontline practitioners to develop their expertise in meeting the Mental Health needs of children and young people. This has included up to date research materials and a forum for discussion. CPD sits at the heart of all the work that we do.

I am a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. I have an interest in parental mental health, safeguarding and multiagency working, particularly the interface between CAMHS and adult mental health services. I have always found ACAMH to be an excellent interdisciplinary learning resource for professionals working with young people and families. I am pleased to be involved with the West Midlands Regional Committee and will continue to champion the valuable learning development that ACAMH provides.
My name is Liv, I’ve worked in educational and social providers for young people for the last eight years. Most recently, as an interventions mentor in a new specialist unit for children with autism and anxiety. One of my most recent projects with the University of Warwick was creating an interactive toolkit and training for staff members about inclusion, neurodiversity and disability in university settings. I believe the resources and learning that ACAMH impart are beneficial to a multidisciplinary audience and am passionate about raising its awareness among student populations.
