The authors thoughtfully discuss the overlap between these conditions, challenges in identifying their co-occurrence, and adaptations needed for interventions.

Research and Innovation in Service Day – ‘Different Models of Mental Health Service Provision – Celebrations and Challenges’

BOOKINGS NOW CLOSED. This annual research day from the ACAMH Southern Branch brings together different professionals, mainly within CAMHS, and presents their latest findings in the area. The focus is on; new care models, the THRIVE framework for system change, initiatives to help education staff to recognise and support students with mental health difficulties and facilitate multiagency professionals problem solving approach.

Environmental factors linked with identifying as a sexual minority may increase suicidality risk

Adolescents who identify as a sexual minority (e.g., gay/lesbian, bisexual) are at an increased risk for suicidality compared to their heterosexual counterparts.1 Until now, inherent limitations in study design has meant that the extent of this association has been unclear.

Chronic illness may present barriers to engaging in CBT for depression

Between 10 and 20% of teenagers have a chronic illness:1 an ongoing health condition that lasts at least 3 months, and for which a cure is unlikely. Research suggests that teenagers with chronic illnesses are more likely to also have low mood and develop depression than their healthy peers.2

Dr. Eric Fombonne

Dr. Eric Fombonne trained in child and adolescent psychiatry in France. He held appointments as clinical scientist at the National Institute of Health and Medical Research  (INSERM, France), as Senior Lecturer and Reader at the Institute of Psychiatry and Maudsley Hospital, King’s College London, UK (1993-2001), as tenured Professor of Psychiatry at McGill University (Canada), Head of the Division of Child Psychiatry and Canada Research Chair in Child Psychiatry (2001-2012).
