This online session led by Florencia Salvarezza will explore early identification and differential diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders, using language as a common thread across different presentations. With a practical focus, the session will consider what professionals should look for when children present with language, learning or developmental concerns, how similar presenting difficulties may point towards different underlying conditions, and how to determine appropriate next steps for assessment, support or referral.

Who should attend

Child and adolescent mental health professionals working with children and families, including psychologists, psychiatrists, paediatricians, speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, and other professionals involved in identifying and supporting children with developmental concerns. The session will be particularly relevant for practitioners who encounter concerns related to language, learning and neurodevelopment but do not necessarily specialise in these areas.

About the Speakers

Florencia Salvarezza

Florencia Salvarezza is Director of the Institute of Neuroscience and Education of the INECO Foundation (Institute of Cognitive Neurology, Argentina). The INECO Foundation promotes scientific research in neuroscience, academic training of professionals and education and awareness in the community about brain functioning and neurological and psychiatric diseases. Graduate in Letters, specializing in Linguistics with a long career as a teacher in Linguistics departments of Universities in Argentina and Belgium, as an adjunct professor of Evolutionary Psychology in Argentina and as a “visiting scholar” in the linguistics department of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA.

She is a clinical specialist in specific language disorders and the relationship with autism spectrum disorders, dyslexia and atypical cognitive disorders. Director of the Language Department of INECO and coordinator of the Dyslexia Clinic and the Lifelong Stuttering Treatment Program. She is a consultant for the Argentine government at a time when it is analyzing fundamental changes in the Educational System. She carries out training, talks and conferences for teachers, school administrators in national and international forums in the areas of language and child communication and in the area of ​​neuroscience applied to education.
