To be nominated for an ACAMH Award is a prestigious recognition of those who are at the forefront of the advancement of child and adolescent mental health research, and practice.

Educator Award – David Cottrell ‘Education of CAMH Professionals’
David Cottrell ‘Education of CAMH Professionals’
Nomination Criteria:Someone who has had a significant impact upon the education or training of child and adolescent mental health professionals. This is open to all disciplines, but education or training must relate to children’s mental health.
Evaluation Criteria / Award Requirements: The Nominee will be asked to provide responses to the following questions, which will be used as evaluative criteria by the judges:
- For how long have you been involved in teaching, and how frequently do you teach or supervise learners?
- Please provide examples of the impact your teaching has had on child and adolescent mental health professionals or services.
- How do you collect and evaluate learner feedback on your teaching?
- Please provide examples of how you have used learner feedback to improve your teaching or educational activities.
- Please describe any presentations, workshops, publications, or educational resources you have delivered or developed related to child and adolescent mental health education.
- Please describe any regional, national, or international contributions you have made to education and training in child and adolescent mental health.
Research Into Practice Award – Eric Taylor ‘Translational Research into Practice’
Eric Taylor ‘Translational Research into Practice’
Nomination Criteria: An individual with a sustained contribution to translating research into practice over a number of years, whose work involves both research, and either clinical or educational involvement in practice. And/or a researcher or clinician who has published translational science (evidence base into practice) with evidence of impact on clinical service provision. This could involve the establishment of new interventions, or improvement of existing ones, with evidence of impact on clinical service provision.
Evaluation Criteria / Award Requirements: The Nominee will be asked to provide responses to the following questions, which will be used as evaluative criteria by the judges:
- Provide a link to a key published paper – No more than three other papers may be submitted in support.
- Briefly describe the scientific quality of the paper(s) and the Impact of the research on health or education service.
- Provide a brief assessment of the sustained body of work / Impact on health or education service.
- Provide brief evidence of impact of the paper(s).
- Briefly describe why this is important now?
Rising Star Award – Kathy Sylva ‘Rising Star’ Award

Nomination Criteria: Please note that this award cannot be self-nominated. Open to any person who has made a significant scientific contribution to child and adolescent mental health literature, within 10 years of their first peer reviewed journal publication.
Evaluation Criteria / Award Requirements: The Nominee will be asked to provide responses to the following questions, which will be used as evaluative criteria by the judges:
- Provide the number of published journal articles.
- Provide the number of citations in Google Scholar.
- Provide the H index in Google Scholar.
- Provide a full list of relevant publications.
- Provide a full 1-page CV (We are committed to inclusivity, and acknowledge that applicants may have taken career breaks for various reasons. Please include any information you feel is important – e.g: maternity, medical, sabbatical, etc.)
Digital Innovation Award – Digital Intervention
Digital Intervention
Nomination Criteria: A clinician who has put evidence base into practice within the information/data/IT/digital fields of child and adolescent mental health. This could be the use of information or technologies in the delivery of care or service design etc.
Evaluation Criteria / Award Requirements: The Nominee will be asked to provide responses to the following questions, which will be used as evaluative criteria by the judges:
- Provide a full list of relevant publications.
- Provide brief evidence of the use of information/technology in delivery of care.
Digital Innovation Award – Research on Digital Impact
Research on Digital Impact
Nomination Criteria: A researcher who has published the best paper on an information/data/IT/digital topic relating to child and adolescent mental health, which can include online assessment innovations.
Evaluation Criteria / Award Requirements: The Nominee will be asked to provide responses to the following questions, which will be used as evaluative criteria by the judges:
- Provide a full list of relevant publications.
- Briefly describe your key published paper and its merits.
Trainee Award – Undergraduate Trainee of the Year
Undergraduate Trainee of the Year
Nomination Criteria: For candidates currently engaged in an undergraduate course. (This category can be self-nominated)
Evaluation Criteria / Award Requirements: The Nominee will be asked to provide responses to the following questions, which will be used as evaluative criteria by the judges:
- Provide 2 references.
- Provide evidence of involvement in training/advocating for evidence-based practice – i.e: quality improvement. (Training could be: short courses, day-seminars, self-guided courses).
- Provide letters from supervisors or feedback from courses.
Trainee Award – Postgraduate Clinical Trainee of the Year
Postgraduate Clinical Trainee of the Year
Nomination Criteria: For candidates currently in a clinical training working towards a professional qualification (rather than academic qualification) in mental health (e.g. medical students, trainee psychiatrists, trainee psychologists, trainee occupational therapists, trainee speech and language therapists etc.)
Evaluation Criteria / Award Requirements: The Nominee will be asked to provide responses to the following questions, which will be used as evaluative criteria by the judges:
- Provide 2 references.
- Provide evidence of involvement in academic work (e.g: by reviewing papers for ACAMH, or through Publons).
- Provide evidence of involvement in training/advocating for evidence-based practice – i.e: quality improvement. (Training could be: short courses, day-seminars, self-guided courses).
- Provide evidence of involvement in publications (e.g: through research, audit, publications).
Trainee Award – Masters Student of the Year

Nomination Criteria: For candidates currently enrolled in an MsC/MA/Mphil course of study as of the date of announcement of invitation for nominations. (This category can be self-nominated)
Evaluation Criteria / Award Requirements: The Nominee will be asked to provide responses to the following questions, which will be used as evaluative criteria by the judges:
- Provide 2 references.
- Provide letters from supervisors or feedback from courses
- Provide evidence of involvement in training/advocating for evidence-based practice – i.e: quality improvement. (Training could be: short courses, day-seminars, self-guided courses).
Trainee Award – PhD Student of the Year
PhD Student of the Year
Nomination Criteria: For candidates enrolled in a PhD programme as of the date of announcement of invitation for nominations. (This category can be self-nominated)
Evaluation Criteria / Award Requirements: The Nominee will be asked to provide responses to the following questions, which will be used as evaluative criteria by the judges:
- Provide 2 references.
- Provide evidence of involvement in publications (e.g: through research, audit, publications).
Trainee Award – Postdoctoral Researcher of the Year

Nomination Criteria: For candidates awarded a PhD in the previous 3 years, but not yet in a tenured academic post.
Evaluation Criteria / Award Requirements: The Nominee will be asked to provide responses to the following questions, which will be used as evaluative criteria by the judges:
- Provide 2 references
- Provide a list of relevant publications, demonstrating academic potential.
- Provide any available evidence/example of Oral or poster presentations at regional, national or international conferences.
- Provide any details about Grant Income Received in the last 2 years.
- Provide any examples of teaching activities.
Team Award – Lionel Hersov Memorial Award
Lionel Hersov Memorial Award
Nomination Criteria: A practice team that has demonstrated the use of evidence base (research, audit or service evaluation) into clinical practice. Or a team that has evaluated the outcome or measures either the clinical impact or demonstrated quality improvement (can be efficiencies of time, money or reduced ‘waste’). The nominations will be accepted from researchers, investigators, clinicians, and educationalists.
Evaluation Criteria / Award Requirements: The Nominee will be asked to provide responses to the following questions, which will be used as evaluative criteria by the judges.
- Provide brief evidence of demonstrable and sustained outcomes of clinical practice over a period exceedingly at least a year
- Briefly explain the value to the community
- Briefly describe the replicability
- Provide a list of all team members
Team Awards – Innovative Research, Training or Practice in Lower-Middle Income Countries
Innovative Research, Training or Practice in Lower-Middle Income Countries
Nomination Criteria: Team based in a country classified by the World Bank as LMICs* in the preceding year, and whose work involve research, clinical or educational activities in that country. The work shows innovation in research, training, or practice/service delivery in child and adolescent mental health.
Evaluation Criteria / Award Requirements: The Nominee will be asked to provide responses to the following questions, which will be used as evaluative criteria by the judges.
- Briefly describe the level of innovation and applicability of your team’s work across other LMICs or potential for application in High Income Countries (reverse innovation).
- Briefly explain the underpinning evidence base/science, its impact, and sustainability.

- Entries may be based on activities undertaken in the last three years or as specified in the Award’s Nomination Criteria.
- Multiple nominations for the same person for the same Award do not carry more weight; only the first submission is considered.
- All information provided in the Nomination Form is treated as confidential and for the purpose of Awards only. The data submitted will be visible only to relevant ACAMH staff for processing, and the Awards judging panel.
- The verdict of the Awards judging panel is final.
- Judges reserve the right to withhold the presentation of awards if entries do not meet the required standard.
