Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for Adolescents (DBT-A) is a third-wave CBT intervention with a growing evidence base for young people experiencing emotion dysregulation, self-harm, and suicidal ideation.
In this interactive workshop, Dr. Jake Camp will outline the DBT-A model, principles, and modes of delivery, and share practical strategies to enhance engagement, manage risk, and address common challenges. The session will also consider how to involve parents and carers, and explore ways to ensure DBT-A is accessible and inclusive for adolescents from diverse and minoritised backgrounds.

About the talks
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for Adolescents (DBT-A) is a third-wave CBT intervention for young people experiencing emotion dysregulation and related behaviours such as self-harm and suicidal ideation. DBT-A has a growing evidence base and has been successfully implemented across diverse clinical settings.
This interactive workshop will provide an overview of the DBT-A model, including its theoretical foundations, core principles, and the structure and modes of delivery. Attendees will learn how DBT-A addresses the developmental needs of adolescents, and how parents/carers are engaged as partners in the intervention.
The workshop will offer practical strategies and “top tips” for delivering DBT-A effectively, including ways to enhance engagement, manage risk, and address common challenges in implementation.
In addition, we will explore considerations for working with adolescents with minoritised and/or oppressed identities, such as those who are race-/ethnicity-minoritised (global majority), neurodivergent, or part of sexual and gender minority groups. Drawing on both research and clinical experience, we will discuss ways to enhance cultural humility, accessibility, and inclusivity within DBT-A.
Learning outcomes
1. To understand the DBT-A model, principles, and modes of delivery.
2. To gain tips on delivering DBT-A with adolescents and parents/carers, and to overcome common challenges.
3. To increase skills in delivering DBT-A to adolescents and families with minoritised/oppressed identities/characteristics.
