Moving Forward with ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is referred to by NICE (2023) as a heterogeneous disorder that is characterised by the three core symptoms of impulsivity, inattention, and hyperactivity. Whilst the causes of ADHD are not fully understood, it is believed that a mix of genetic and environmental factors working together may likely be the cause (Thapar et al. 2012).

ADHD affects approximately 5%-7% of children and adolescents (Bisset et al. 2023). It can have a large impact on school, peer relationships, self-esteem and family life without appropriate treatment (GOSH, 2023), and people with ADHD often report that they experience a lack of full acceptance in society (Franke et al. 2023).

Celebrated every October, ADHD Awareness Month aims to educate the public about ADHD by disseminating information informed by evidence-based research. It provides an opportunity to correct misunderstandings, acknowledge lived experiences, and read the latest research from leading lights in the field.

This ADHD Awareness Month, we encourage you to explore the learning opportunities available on our website, and to share with your networks.

We have gathered a range of FREE learning resources from leading academics, clinicians, researchers, to raise awareness this ADHD Awareness Month.
