Co-development of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autistic trait trajectories from childhood to early adulthood
Open Access paper from the JCPP – ‘Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism, defined as traits or disorders, commonly co-occur. Developmental trajectories of ADHD and autistic traits both show heterogeneity in onset and course, but little is known about how symptom trajectories co-develop into adulthood.’ Amy Shakeshaft (pic) et al.

Gut mycobiome dysbiosis and its impact on intestinal permeability in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder
Paper from the JCPP – ‘This study aimed to investigate the impact of fungal mycobiome dysbiosis and intestinal permeability on ADHD. The current study is the first to explore altered gut mycobiome dysbiosis using the NGS platform in ADHD.’ Liang-Jen Wang et al.

Examining bidirectional associations between sleep and behavior among children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder
Open Access paper from JCPP Advances – ‘This study examines the bidirectional relationship between nightly sleep (i.e., total sleep time and sleep efficiency) and daily behavior of children with ADHD.’ Craig A. Sidol et al.

Research Review: Executive function profiles of preschool children with autism spectrum disorder and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder: A systematic review
Open Access paper from JCPP Advances – Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are both associated with differences in Executive Functioning (EF). There is lack of clarity around the specificity or overlap of EF differences in early childhood when both disorders are first emerging. This systematic review aims to delineate preschool EF profiles by examining studies comparing the EF profiles of children with and without ASD or ADHD. Marina Christoforou et al.

Editorial Perspective: Leaving the baby in the bathwater in neurodevelopmental research
Open Access paper from the JCPP – “We review three worked examples (of stress processing, early activity level in ADHD and social brain development in autism) to illustrate how these new approaches might lead to new conceptual and translatable insights into neurodevelopment”. Sam Wass and Emily J.H. Jones (pic)

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and white matter microstructure: The importance of dimensional analyses and sex differences
Open Access paper from JCPP Advances – “Attention-deficit/hyperactive disorder (ADHD) has substantial heterogeneity in clinical presentation. A potentially important clue may be variation in brain microstructure. Using fractional anisotropy (FA), previous studies have produced equivocal results in relation to ADHD. This may be due to insufficient consideration of possible sex differences and ADHD’s multi-componential nature”. Scott A. Jones et al.
